Photography
Karen was drawn to capturing life on film as a young girl, finding it a wonderful outlet for her powers of observation, and keen visual sensitivity. She took her first photography class in high school, and graduated from New England School of Photography in Boston, with honors, in 1978.
The beauty of life as it is has always
been Karen's primary inspiration to photograph.
This has turned her camera to a variety of subjects over the years:
her Swedish grandmother and interiors of her home, children Karen has
known and cared for, four generations of a fishing family and a four
day fishing trip off the coast of Maine for National Fisherman, the island of Islesboro as correspondent for The Camden Herald, a three
month stay in Paris, France, life aboard a 45' wooden schooner, farms
and gardens, artists and craftspeople at their craft, vision quests and
experiential workshops, ballet and bellydance classes, the creation of
her home, and hundreds of weddings.
Karen did not "plan" to be a wedding photographer - it simply grew out of her life, discovering that she was good at being unobtrusive (a favorite compliment), and capturing moments that are imbued with deep feeling. Moments of deep feeling are where Karen is most at home - her presence at your wedding is akin to that of a quiet and gentle friend, viewing the day through her camera, with love.
The weddings that Karen especially enjoys photographing are those that allow for natural light photography (outdoor celebrations) and incorporate the environment into the day. She also appreciates gatherings of 100 or fewer guests, allowing for a level of intimacy and connection between people.
If you are creating a sacred wedding (or other) celebration, Karen would be delighted to be your photographer.
